The Caribou Luggage System latch is designed to allow the case to eject in the event of a hard crash so that your bike's rear subframe is protected. This compression latch is the field replaceable "fuse" that allows the case to eject. If you are planning technical off-road riding, carrying a spare compression latch is not a bad idea.
